Irreverente - International Impro Festival of Lisbon
Created by and Artistic Directed by André Sobral and Luana Proença
Produced by Embuscada
The Festival intends to bring together the impro community living in Portugal with other countries, by promoting an event with activities in Theater, Dance, Music and other forms of art.
Our irreverence seeks to break preconceived concepts, about the art of improvisation and the art that is created in contemporaneity, questioning and reaffirming, and mainly, breaking with the idea that differences distance us. Saying "Yes, and", the motto of improvisation. “Yes” for us and other people, “and” create together something that finds its own new rules.
Our Mission: Deconstruct judgments and preconceptions about art, ourselves and about the art we make, in order to find out authenticity at the rhythm of the Tejo river waves.
2023 Edition: July 26 to 29 in Lisbon (Portugal)
Theme: SPACES
The space of the scene, real and imaginary.
Outer space and the space between us.
Ellipsis…
The space of silence, of time, of what is hidden, and of the present.
Gathering space.

Our Direction on Stake: Directing is Part of Improvising (Book)
This is a workbook with exercises to do by yourself at home and also as a group in your theater.
If improvisers are actors, writers and directors at the same time when they improvise, so directing is part of improvising.
The book have 19 exercises to work the directing side of the improviser, the direction that our improvisation takes (as we also choose) while we are improvising.
This is part of Luana Proença's PhD research at Lisbon's University.
The workbook is available in different prices, as you can choose your best way to contribute for this work. New times, new ways to approach our economy, right? You can pay 5€, 10€, 15€, 20€ or 30€ for the e-book.
Luana Proença also teaches classes about the topic, and you can combine this two experiences: the Workbook and the classes! Get in contact and schedule it! See it below!

Lili Lab - Improvisation Laboratory for Women (Lisbon)
This continuous laboratory is a research work seeking a feminist approach in performing arts and storytelling based on improvisation. In Lilimprov, we want to explore questions like: How do we want to represent women on stage? How can we communicate our women's narrative and perspective to the audience through the arts? How can we create diversity in the media we use?
We would like to invite women from the artistic community to join us in seeking new perspectives or to contribute with new research questions. We see this as an open research to ask the dumb and intelligent questions. We will bring our material and you can bring your suggestions on what you would like to explore and test as well. To quote the book by our dear Luana Proença: "We take the first step, you take the next, and the impact of this will continue to affect us in its proportional intensity.”
The LiliLab happens in English or in Portuguese, for all levels and diversities of the English and Portuguese language.
Produced by Lilimprov:
Lilimprov is a theatre group residing in Lisbon uniting women artists from Brazil, Portugal and Germany. We are working within the realm of physical theatre, object theatre, improvisation, and Dance. Our research is dedicated to the representation of women in history, society and on stage.
Lilimprov members are: Anne Buntemann, Isadora Lima, Luana Proença and Rita Tavares.
